Karting Team qualify for the regional finals

Thursday the 7th February saw the Gordon’s School karting team take to the tarmac for the start of the 2019 season. Looking to build on the top 10 national finishes of the last three years (and one podium) we took three teams down to the TeamSport race track in Acton. It was great to see the Y9 and Y10 representing Gordon’s in the karts for the first time. These included Stuart Mackenzie, Matt Dove, Alex Early and Harry Straver, who all put in a sterling effort on a slippery indoor track, with limited places to attempt an overtake they had great speed all night and were a credit to the School. It was also great to George Hudson back driving in Gordon’s colours, with his steely determination and his Galdalf-esk ‘Thou shall not pass’ attitude! Drive of the day went to the captain of the C team – Bobby Caldwell, who held off more experienced drivers for much of the last race, before finally succumbing on the last lap.

At the half-way stage the standing were very tight, with Gordon’s A team (made up of Zak Fulk, Marcus Smith and captain Pete Given) one point off the lead. Blood was pumping and nerves were slightly frayed, as we were unsure how many teams were to progress to the region final in May. We shouldn’t have worried – the boys pulled off three great last races winning them all, to take 1st place on the night and one of the 2 spots in the regional final (to be held at Buckmore Park in May.) The B and C teams were just squeezed out of second, but was a great experience for all, and will hold them in good stead for next year.
